This is the 2nd year Charlevoix Recreation will host Friday night Candlelight Hikes. Set your own pace on a self-guided trail hike (or snowshoe or cross-country ski) and follow the candle lit path to a camp fire and hot cocoa. Hikes begin December 20 and run through February 28 from 5:00 – 8:00 PM. Charlevoix Recreation is currently seeking volunteers to help with a number of responsibilities surrounding the hikes. Volunteer positions include Set-Up, Tear Down, Putting out Candles, Trail Head Greeters and Fire Pit Greeters. “If you have an interest in getting some exercise, meeting up with old friends or making new ones this winter, consider volunteering at one or more of our hikes. Those that worked and volunteered last year had a really good time. It really is nice to see so many people in our community out on the trails, especially in the winter!”, said Kent Knorr, Recreation Director. Jacob Petrosky is a 4th year student in Classical Languages at Grand Valley State University, along with being a proud alum of North Central Michigan College. This is his first year as a fellow.
Jacob has six years of experience working with children, professionally and as a volunteer, both in and out of the school system. He presently enjoys teaching Latin and playing Sharks and Minnows at Camp McSauba.
Having found he enjoys rigorous academic practice and arguing about words during his time in the Classics department, Jacob applied and was accepted to Harvard Law’s Junior Deferral Program. The two year deferral period granted by Harvard will allow Jacob to join the Peace Corps, garnering more professional experience with children and learning a modern language. Though he is not exact on what kind of law he wishes to practice, he is interested in legal work with children, legal history, and the judiciary.
In his free time, Jacob enjoys lifting weights, brisk walks, meal prepping, and reading Latin, Greek, and English.

Originally installed for the 2001 Venetian Games, we are now on V3.0 and looking to lots of improvements in 2022. There are short and long tee's on most holes with lots of elevation to contend with, and a good mix of longer and shorter holes ~ you're gonna need every shot in the bag for this course. Bring water and snacks, and maybe bug spray in the heart of summer if it's really calm. Signage is a bit wonky in a few spots, and some holes are shown as "upside-down" so a bit confusing - all to be remedied in 2022!
