The family of Emmett Till still fighting for justice after decades
The streets of Jackson near Freedom Corner were packed Sunday with family, activists and city leaders.They held signs of Emmett Till, commemorating his horrific death.That death and publicly displayed coffin, many argued, helped start the Civil Rights Movement.Almost 70 years later, family members say they are still fighting for justice.“You know Carolyn Bryant died last year, and we asked the state of Mississippi to at least charge her with at least accessory to that case. We are still fighting for justice although we find out more and more information," said Priscilla Williams-Sterling.Family members of Till are asking the federal government to divest funding from the destination sites in the Delta. They say its owned by the family of Carolyn Bryant.“I don’t know if the world knows, but the world needs to know that the perpetrator's family are now benefiting from tax cuts, tax breaks, grant funding and federal dollars from the national parks service," said Sterling.Sterling said they are currently in contact with the National Park Service about what they say is an injustice.
